With espionage and world powers, there’s so many moving parts that it’s easy to lose track of how expansive and collaborative history is.
In this specific case, I learnt about KgU from browsing Wikipedia. Then I looked up Thomas Rid's book and declassified reports in the CIA archives.
There were two other CIA-funded organisations acting in concert with KgU. Wanted to include their story too, but that would make the whole thing too unwieldy for Substack.
